How to Prepare Your Driveway for Mobile Storage Delivery

Mobile Storage Made Simple: How to Prepare for Your Shipping Container Delivery

Getting a mobile storage container delivered right to your location is a convenient way to add extra space — but to ensure a smooth and safe drop-off, it’s important to prepare your driveway or designated area in advance.

Here’s what to know before your container arrives:

✅ 1. Measure the Space

An 8×20 mobile container requires at least 60 feet in length to safely drop and place the unit. That includes space for the delivery truck to maneuver and unload.

Checklist:

  • Clear 60 feet of driveway length
  • Ensure 12 feet of width
  • Account for room to allow doors to open (5 feet)

🧹 2. Clear the Area

Before delivery day, make sure the space is free of:

  • Vehicles
  • Bicycles, toys, or outdoor furniture
  • Overhanging branches or wires
  • Snow, ice, or debris (especially in winter months)

If it’s a gravel or dirt driveway, a quick leveling or compacting helps ensure stable placement.

🧱 3. Protect the Surface (Optional but Recommended)

To minimize marks or impressions—especially on asphalt or interlock—we suggest placing wooden planks or patio stones under the container’s corners. This also helps with drainage and leveling.

🧭 4. Plan Container Placement

Think about convenience and safety:

  • Do you want the door facing the house or the street?
  • Will you need regular access during rental?
  • Is there enough space to open the doors fully?

Pro tip: Leave at least 5 feet of clearance in front of the container for easy access.

☃️ 6. Winter Deliveries: Special Considerations

If your delivery is scheduled during the winter:

  • Clear all snow and ice from the delivery area
  • Salt the surface to ensure safe access for the driver
  • Let us know if there’s a slope or incline—we may use extra support or suggest an alternate location
